  • Tank - appropriate size for your species, substrate, moss, digital thermo-hygrometer, hides and decor, misting bottle, leaf litter, water dish

  • Terrestrial frogs will need different size housing depending on their age and species:
    Pacman Frog – Adult Size: 3-5 inches, Minimum Adult Enclosure Size: 10+ gallons – 1 frog only;
    Pixie Frog/Giant African Bull Frog – Adult Size: 7-10 inches, Minimum Adult Enclosure Size: 36x18x18+ – 1 frog only;
    Tomato Frog – Adult Size: 2-4 inches, Minimum Adult Enclosure Size: 18x18x12 – 1 frog, 24x24x12+/20gal - 2 frogs;
    Malaysian Leaf Frog – Adult Size: 3-5 inches, Minimum Adult Enclosure Size: 24x18x18/20gal – 1 frog only
    36x18x18+ - 2 frogs, Must be minimum 18in tall;
    Asian Spiny Toad – Adult Size: 2-5 inches, Minimum Adult Enclosure Size: 18 cube – 1 toad, 24x24x18/20gal+ - 2 toads;
    Colorado River Toad – Adult Size: 4-7 inches, Minimum Adult Enclosure Size: 24x18x18/20gal – 1 frog, 36x18x18+ - 2 frogs

  • A humidity holding substrate is needed to maintain the correct levels for your frog. Forest Floor, Jungle Mix, or Biodude Terra Flora are all recommended and can be mixed with moss to hold more humidity.

  • Frogs should be kept at 72-78 degrees. Temperatures above 80 degrees should be avoided. If temperatures drop under 72 degrees supplemental heat may be required in the form of a small heat mat on a thermostat or low wattage ceramic heat emitter.

  • 60-80% humidity is required. Daily misting or an auto mister can be used to keep the levels.
    Misting daily will be required for most species. A shallow water bowl the frog can fit in should be provided.

  • Frogs are insectivores, most prefer crickets, but other worms and live insects can be rotated into their diets. Feeders other than crickets should be offered in a smooth sided dish or worm dish to keep them from escaping into the enclosure.
    Terrestrial Frogs should be fed live insects of appropriate size 3/4 times a week. Each frog will eat about 5-10 insects each feeding. Insects should be dusted with calcium with D3.

  • Terrestrial frogs require lots of ground cover and hiding spots. Cork bark and leaf litter are easy ways to fulfill these needs.

  • Keep the enclosure spot cleaned of waste and change substrate and moss every 3 months.
    In a bioactive environment, the waste of the frogs will be broken down by the microfauna (which are also a food source for the frogs) and absorbed by the plants. The only maintenance then consists of feeding the frogs, pruning the plants, and draining water from the drainage layer as needed.

  • Their skin is delicate and can absorb harmful substances on our skin, so they should never be handled recreationally.
    Calcium deficiency – Symptoms of calcium deficiency include hind limb paralysis, complete paralysis, spasms, seizures, and skeletal deformities.
